Open Mic Night @ Walter’s Kitchen – A Night of Laughs and Portraits

September 10, 2024

Last night was a long time coming—Payasito Sepa finally invited me to one of his shows! I’d promised him some portraits ages ago, and I was pumped to deliver. The venue, Walter’s Kitchen, had some seriously good food—a mix of plates that had me wanting to put the camera down for a second just to savor it all. But duty called!

The night was all about the comedians. They were sharpening their routines, delivering joke after joke, with the crowd fully engaged. I brought my Nikon D800 paired with the trusty 70-200mm f/2.8 and set up an off-camera flash. I got creative and mounted the flash on top of the speaker, aiming it straight at the comics. Seemed like the perfect setup—until one of the comedians couldn’t handle the stage lights. “Too bright!” he said. Meanwhile, I’m in my head like, “No, they’re perfect!” But hey, the show must go on, and they dimmed the lights. No problem—I adjusted my settings and kept rolling with the punches.

The atmosphere was electric, with each comedian working the crowd, and I managed to snap some killer portraits of Sepa in his element. It’s always a balance of light, laughter, and timing at events like these, and despite the lighting hiccup, I got what I needed.

Overall, it was a night full of laughs, good vibes, and great shots. Can’t wait for the next one!
