Emilio’s First Birthday – A Night of Celebrations and Surprises

September 15, 2024

Emilio’s first birthday! I can’t believe I photographed his baby shower a year ago—time flies. It’s wild to think I was capturing “Baby Boo Muñiz” and now here I am, documenting his first big milestone. The night was extra special, not just because of the birthday, but because it was also the night of the Canelo vs. Berlanga fight—Mexico vs. Puerto Rico. Let’s be real, we all knew Berlanga wasn’t going to take the win, but that didn’t stop the fun. I was one of the only Puerto Ricans in a sea of my Mexican friends, so naturally, they gave me a front-row seat to the TV. I think they wanted to watch me suffer the loss, but hey, it was all laughs (and maybe a little hope, lmao).

The birthday itself came with some surprises for me. I was using my trusty Sony A7III with the 50mm f/1.8 and an off-camera flash on a stand. I had just gotten my camera back from the shop, but all the settings had been reset. I didn’t think much of it until I realized—mid-editing—that I had shot the entire birthday in JPEG instead of RAW! Talk about a lesson learned. I could’ve kicked myself, but honestly, the images turned out great, and it reminded me of the value of shooting RAW versus JPEG. You live, you learn.

Despite the hiccups, the night was full of love, laughter, and some unforgettable moments. Between the party, the fight, and the teasing, it was a night to remember. Can’t wait to see what next year brings for Baby Boo!
